    Alcohol Sclerosing Injections

The cause of intermetatarsal neuromas is unclear. However, the most likely pathogenesis is mechanically induced or an entrapment type neuropathy. The treatment of neuromas includes a prescription orthotics, steroid injection and anti-inflammatories. In addition we provide a more advanced treatment option that the literature reports a 89% successful resolution rate on. The procedure involves injecting alcohol sclerosing solution adjacent to the neuroma. The treatment is a viable alternative to steroid injections or surgery.

  • Dry Needling

    Dry Needling

Dry Needling is another non-surgical treatment provided by the doctors of Issaquah Foot & Ankle Specialists to effectively treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. This form of chronic heel pain typically results form repetitive stress or reoccurring injuries. The condition is often recognized by acute pain near the heel on the bottom of the foot, especially with the first few steps in the morning. Most people with  plantar fasciitis describe their symptoms as a burning, stabbing or aching pain in the heel.

They also report the pain is most noticeable in the morning when first rising from bed or after periods of rest. When patients with this condition take their first steps in the morning they will often limp for a period before the pain subsides. However, the pain will return either later in the day or again the next morning. If left untreated the condition will worsen leading to more aggressive treatment plans. The most severe treatment plans may include surgery if more conservative treatments do not provide the relief and the ability for healing. However, our plantar fasciitis treatment success rate is approaching 95% without surgery.  Dry needling for plantar fasciitis stimulates blood flow to promote the healing of the damaged tissue. The procedure incorporates Ultrasound imaging to guide the needle precisely to the inflamed area. This procedure may also incorporate the use of steroids that can be delivered directly to the plantar fascia region. In addition to the Ultrasound imaging guidance we provide this treatment with the use of our TENS unit. TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) provides electrical currents to stimulate the nerves surrounding the area to virtually eliminate any pain associated with the procedure.

For more information about this procedure, request an appointment and learn if this or the other advanced treatment options provided by Issaquah Foot & Ankle Specialists are right for you. What to expect with our dry needling procedure for plantar fasciitis sufferers. On the day of the dry needling procedure, first a local anesthestic is utilized so that the second part of the procedure provides no discomfort. The dry needling procedure is guided by Ultrasound imaging, in which a needle is used to break the surface of the skin and interact with the area of the plantar fascia that is damaged to promote platelet and growth factors to enter the region. This influences the healing process. In addition, a low dose of cortisone is utilized and placed between the plantar fascia and the fat pad but not directly into either layer. Structures such as the plantar fascia and the Achilles tendon tend to be avascular.

Therefore this procedure of allowing for release of platelets and the associated growth factor greatly speeds up the body’s own healing capabilities. In addition to the procedure some post procedure care should be observed and will vary depending upon each patients severity and other medical conditions. Also, many patients find long term relief and prevention of future occurrences of plantar fasciitis from prescription orthotics.

  • Ultrasound Guided Traumeel

    Ultrasound Guided Traumeel

Traumeel is a combination drug, which reduces inflammation and swelling. Traumeel is available in many forms, however one of the most effective applications of the drug is ultrasound guided Traumeel injection. Injected locally, the drugs analgesic effect is comparable to steroids.  Traumeel has been used in many forms for more than 80 years and is safe for frequent use. Ultrasound guided Traumeel injections provide highly effective medication delivered precisely to the affected area. This is a commonly recommended treatment provided by the doctors of Issaquah Foot and Ankle Specialists opposed to more aggressive treatment options.

  • Sports Injury

Sports InjuryFoot and ankle pain can be distracting for many people, but it is particularly unbearable for patients with active lifestyles. An injury to the toes and feet can mean a minute off your mile, a season on the bench, and the loss of the ability to do the activity you love the most.

Our Washington Podiatrists Treat a Wide Range of Sports-Related Foot Injuries

Issaquah Foot & Ankle Specialists provides comprehensive treatment for foot and ankle injuries due to running, football, basketball, baseball, and other demanding sports. Our methods combine non-surgical pain relief with high-tech intervention, relieving the swelling and accelerating the healing process. With our injury rehabilitation program, patients can regain ankle stability and function, as well as take measures to prevent further injury.

We can help resolve many athletic foot and ankle problems, including:

Fractures. Bones in the feet and ankle can break due to sudden trauma, but also as a result of repetitive stress due to overuse. Athletes who train every day can suffer hairline fractures in their metatarsals, the bones supporting the middle and ball of the foot. These injuries can prevent an athlete from standing up on his toes and can make both running and walking extremely painful.

Ankle injuries. Running, martial arts training, kickboxing, and team sports are all hard on the ankles, and place athletes at significant risk of injury. Athletes may stretch or tear the ligaments in the ankle from repeated use (commonly called a sprain), or injure the muscles and tendons (known as a strain). Since it is vital that athletes regain control and function in their ankles, our podiatrists perform immediate physical therapy to protect the ankle joint while in motion, strengthen the muscles, and control pain and inflammation.

Turf toe. Athletes are extremely susceptible to injuries on artificial surfaces, particularly in their big toes. One of the most frequent injuries is hyperextension of the big toe joint (turf toe) as a player crouches down or pushes off into a run. Football and soccer players are most commonly affected by turf toe, although players on any unforgiving surface (such as a track or hard flooring) can suffer as well. Turf toe is an extremely painful condition that results in swelling, tenderness, and impaired movement.

Sesamoiditis. Sesamoids are bones in the human body that are not connected to another bone, but are connected to tendons. These bones provide protection, help with load-bearing, and stabilize the movements of the body. Athletes who use the tendons in their feet regularly for balance (such as dancers and baseball catchers) can suffer inflammation in the tendons surrounding the bones, known as sesamoiditis. This condition causes pain in the affected bones on the underside of the forefoot or near the big toe, especially when flexing the feet.

Tendon injury. An injury to the tendons in the feet and ankles can be even more painful than breaking a bone. In tendinitis, the tendons become inflamed, causing persistent pain that does not go away without rest. If the tendon does not have a chance to heal, it can tear (or rupture), resulting in an inability to walk normally that places stress on other joints in the body. A severe Achilles tendon rupture can cause difficulty running or rising up on the toes, and may require surgery to fix.
