Hallux Limitus refers to the early stages of toe stiffness due to degenerative arthritis of the base of the big toe. The symptoms are as follows: painful or swollen base of the big toe, calluses, reduced mobility of big toe and/or pain or difficulty when walking. Treatment options include: anti-inflammatory medication, cortisone injections, physical therapy, orthotic therapy, shoe modification or modification of activities. In some cases, surgery is recommended.
